Applying for funding
|
| Applications for research funding must be
submitted by the Baker IDI Research Office and NOT
directly to the funding body. The only exception is some
on-line applications but, in this case, a copy of the
application should be emailed to the Research Office. | |

dates and application instructions:
The Research Office advises of calls for NHMRC and Heart
Foundation applications by email as soon as they are open. Other
funding opportunities are flagged in the
weekly bulletin and on this
website.
Advise the Research Office of your intention to apply
well before the internal closing date.
Early career researchers, in particular, should seek
advice/input from their lab head, supervisor and colleagues
when preparing an application for research funding. The
Baker IDI Grants Committee assigns internal reviewers for
NHMRC Project Grant applications in late November each year.
Allocation of ID number
All NHMRC applications receive a unique ID number in
Research
Grants Management System (RGMS) as soon as a new application
is initiated.
Other funding bodies assign ID numbers following receipt
of applications. The ID number should be quoted in all
correspondence with the funding body.
Funding rules and instructions to applicants
It is important to read the funding rules prior to
commencing an application. Funding rules for NHMRC funding
schemes can be obtained from the
NHMRC website or the
RGMS
Library.
The funding rules for other grants may be obtained from
the funding body's website. The instructions to applicants
must be referred to when completing an application.
All NHMRC applications are to be completed in RGMS. The
snapshot reports and a draft research plan should be emailed
to the Research Office by the advertised internal closing
date, which is 1-3 weeks before the NHMRC closing date,
depending on the scheme.
Applications to other funding bodies should be completed
on the specific application form available from the funding
body website. Draft applications should be submitted to the
Research Office by the internal closing date for compliance
checking.
Research Office compliance review
The Research Office reviews applications for compliance
with the funding rules and instructions. Feedback is emailed
to the CIA. This feedback should be used to amend the draft
application before resubmitting the final application to the
Research Office by the date advised.
The Research Office submits the application to the NHMRC
or other funding body by the closing date.
If the selection process involves an interview (as for
NHMRC Research Fellowships and Heart Foundation Fellowships)
the Research Office will organise practice sessions.
Advice of application outcome
The Research Office is advised of the outcomes of NHMRC
applications and promptly advises the applicants. Some other
funding bodies may contact the CIA directly. In this
instance, please advise the Research Office as soon as
possible and provide any documents you have received. You
will be required to sign a Baker IDI Grant Acceptance form.
