Australia / APEC - Women in Research Fellowship

To encourage mobility of postdoctoral female researchers from the APEC region, up to ten Fellowships will be awarded for female researchers (who are citizens of either Chile, People's Republic of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand or Viet Nam) to conduct a 1-4 month research project within any discipline at an Australian institution. Applicants should have obtained a PhD by 1 April 2017, have no more than five years professional research experience and be available to commence the project between 1 July 2017 and 31 December 2017. The Fellowship is not available to permanent residents of Australia. The Fellowship provides personal support of of between $8000 - $23,000 (depending on country of origin and circumstances), which is inclusive of a $3000 monthly stipend. Research costs are not supported.

Australian Diabetes Society - Skip Martin Fellowship

One year Fellowship for an early-career researcher with up to six years postdoctoral experience (as of December 2016) to undertake research in any area of diabetes.

Value

  • $80,000 salary support for one year plus travel allowance of up to $5000

Eligibility Criteria

  • Up to six years postdoctoral experience as December 2016 (PhD not required at time of application)
  • Financial ADS member for at least 1 year at the time of accepting the award in January 2017
  • Australian citizenship not required but must take up position in Australia for duration of award

 Timing

  • Winner announced January 2017
  • Fellowship must commence by 30 June 2017.

Australian Friends of the Hebrew University - Golda Meir Fellowship

Opportunity for an early-career researcher with up to four years postdoctoral experience to spend one to two years at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Value

Australian Government Department of Education and Training - Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships

Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s competitive, merit-based scholarships and fellowships providing opportunities for Australians to undertake study, research or professional development overseas (e.g. Asia Pacific, Middle East, Europe, the Americas) and for overseas citizens to do the same in Australia. Various categories of awards allow long-term (1-2 years) or short-term (4-6 months) research to be undertaken towards a Masters, PhD or postdoctoral research. Support includes travel allowances, monthly stipends and tuition fess, where relevant.

Club Melbourne - Club Melbourne Fellowship

The Fellowship recognises excellence in research for a mid-career researcher (within 5-10 years post-PhD or 15 years post PhD with career disruptions) based in Victoria. Provides funding of $10,000 to support costs for research that must include, but is not limited to, international conference attendance that enables new research opportunities. The recipient will also gain access to the prestigious Club Melbourne network through attendance at annual program events, including the opportunity to present their research to Club Melbourne Ambassadors. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia. Only one application per institution is allowed; therefore interested applicants should provide a pre-application including their CV (up to 2 pages) and a 1/2 - 3/4 page synopsis of planned overseas research collaborations and activity to the Research Office by 17 March 2017.

JDRF International - Fellowships

The International arm of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) offers a range of training- and career-oriented schemes for researchers pursuing a career in type 1 diabetes-related research. The schemes listed below have no citizenship requirements and may be taken up anywhere in the world. Specific details of the JDRF's research priority areas can be found on the JDRF website. The application process is via the JDRF online system - RMS360.

 Postdoctoral Fellowship (3-year Fellowship with stipend between $US57,984 to $US69,060 p.a. for applicants up to 5 years post-PhD or equivalent).
Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship (3-year Fellowship with stipend up to $US95,000 for applicants up to 6 years post-PhD or equivalent).
Career Development Award (5-year award valued at up to $US150,000 for applicants who have secured a faculty level (or equivalent) appointment < 3 years before application. May be used to support research costs / research assistants).
Early-Career Patient-Oriented Diabetes Research Award (5-year award valued at up to $US150,000 for clinician researchers who have secured a faculty level (or equivalent) appointment < 5 years before application. May be used to support research costs / research assistants).

L'Oreal Australia and New Zealand - Women in Science Fellowships

To help support early-career female scientists continue their research and rise to leadership positions. The Fellowship is open to female researchers within five years of completing their PhD (excluding career disruptions). Four Australian Fellowships and one New Zealand Fellowship will be available at a value of $25,000 to conduct a one-year project in Australia or New Zealand. Funds may be used to cover project costs, salary for a research assistant (but not the Fellow), conference travel and other research-related costs.

Melbourne Boston Sister Cities Association - Hugh Rogers Fellowship

To encourage and support innovative people and ideas by funding research and projects that expand and enhance Melbourne's and Boston's reputations as centres of knowledge excellence in the areas of 'Education', 'Healthcare and Medical Research' and 'The Arts and Culture'. The Healthcare and Medical Research Fellowship will provide up to $10,000 for a short, self contained, outcome-oriented research project of between 2 to 8 weeks duration to be undertaken by a Melbourne-based early career researcher in an institution in Boston. The Fellowship is not intended to support basic research and preference will be given to projects that show promise to deliver early public health benefits and/or clinical outcomes, or alternatively, hold the promise of early commercialisation. Funds may be used for travel expenses and project-related costs Applicants should be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia - Postdoctoral Fellowships/NHMRC Betty Cuthbert Fellowship

Postdoctoral Fellowships
For researchers in the field of multiple sclerosis, who have been awarded their PhD within the last six years or are in the final year of a PhD. Provides salary support of between $70,000 to $80,000 per year for up to three years.

NHMRC Betty Cuthbert Fellowship
A four-year salary support award co-funded by the NHMRC and MRSA for early-career researchers working in multiple sclerosis research in the areas of biomedical, clinical, public health or health services. Applicants must have also applied separately to the NHMRC Early Career Fellowship scheme and have fulfilled all the NHMRC eligibility requirements. Salary support is according to NHMRC scales.

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) - Society in Science Branco Weiss Fellowship

For researchers with up to five years postdoctoral experience (as of 15 January 2017) to pursue an unconventional research project in any area or topic in science, engineering or the social sciences anywhere in the world for up to five years. Up to 10 Fellowships will be awarded in 2017. Branco Weiss Fellows should be willing to engage in a dialogue on relevant social, cultural, political or economic issues across the frontiers of their particular discipline and their project should depart from mainstream research in their particular discipline.

Value

  • The Fellowship is valued at CHF 100'000/year (Swiss francs) and may be used to cover all legitimate costs of research (i.e. salary and/or equipment, travel cost, consumables, personnel etc.).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Up to five years post PhD (as of 15 January 2017)
  • Applicants should have been born before 1 January 1983.
  • No citizenship requirements
