  • For teams of researchers to pursue collaborative research which aims to improve health outcomes and promote or improve translation of research outcomes into policy and/or practice
  • To support researchers in capacity building activities
  • May be a single physical entity or institute, or a geographically disparate network

Each centre will receive up to a maximum of $2.5 million for a duration of 5 years. Funding will support three streams:

  • up to six CREs in Clinical Research
  • up to four CREs in Population Health Research
  • up to four CREs in Health Services Research

The CRE scheme is open to all researchers based in Australia. A maximum of 10 Chief Investigators is permitted on a CRE application. The Chief Investigator A (CIA) must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand resident, and must be based in Australia for the duration of the grant. The NHMRC will consider waiving the requirement for citizenship/residency, where it can be demonstrated that the research is based in Australia and will benefit health and medical research in Australia.
