Eligibility The Mental Health Targeted Call for Research (TCR) scheme is open to all researchers based in Australia. A maximum of 10 Chief Investigators is permitted on a TCR application. The Chief Investigator A (CIA) must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand resident, and must be based in Australia for the duration of the grant.

Applicants applying as CI may apply for, and hold other NHMRC grants, subject to any limits set for holding grants in other NHMRC funding schemes.

This TCR is focused on research that will deliver immediate and long term benefits to children and young people with mental illness, such as policy and service delivery improvements. Applications under the TCR are intended to be highly collaborative and sustainable beyond the duration of NHMRC funding.

All Mental Health Targeted Call for Research applications must be commenced in RGMS by 5pm, 8 February 2012 and must contain the following minimum data:

  • Part A Home (specifically the Administering Institution and Application Title)
  • A-RT Research Team and Commitment
  • A-A2 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research 
Application process Applicants should read the application documentation above prior to commencing their Mental Health TCR application. 
  1. Log in to RGMS. All CIs should update all sections of their Profile and CV. New users to RGMS should submit a 'New User Request'.
  2. Commence a new application. Choose 'Targeted Research' from the 'Initiative' drop-down menu.
  3. The complete application must consist of the following:
    • Relevant information from RGMS Profile and CV
    • Completion of Parts A and B of the application
    • Associate Investigator role PDF
    • Background and Research Plan PDF (including Record of Research and Translation Achievement)
  4. When the application is ready for Research Office administrative review and feedback, upload all PDF documents and generate new snapshot reports. Notify the Research Office via email, quoting the application ID number.
  5. Obtain all signatures on the CI consent form and return it to the Research Office by Wednesday, 28 March 2012.
Do not certify until you have received feedback and are advised to do so by the Research Office.
